Callum Crighton: GROW BABE

With influences from David Bowie to MARINA, 'Grow Babe' is the brand new airy, synth drenched bop from Liverpool talent Callum Crighton which he describes as a love song to himself. The fresh self-produced single focuses on the growth that we all try and achieve throughout our lives, slowly overcoming challenges within ourselves and our environment we never thought we could and achieving our goals. Crighton notes,

"Grow Babe' was written from a conversation I had with some friends, we started talking how there is a real difference between simply getting older and growing. Growth is something that comes from learning to do everything out of love and accepting all parts of yourself and other people around you...I'd like to think that the overall message can inspire people to go after what they truly want... more people should embrace the good in them rather than being embarrassed!"

'Grow Babe' creates a hybrid of sounds from the 70s and 80s and we hear Crighton play around with varying techniques throughout from a Bee-Gees inspired falsetto section to an auto-tuned vocal slide in the chorus. The variety within the sound and the fact that the message is delivered as something you can't help but dance to reflects the tracks overall message; that life throws different things at us, but we can always turn these things into positive growth.

You are like a flower, and you've been inside the soil for too long

The single is accompanied by an impressive music video (filmed by an all female production company) that keeps up with the nostalgic theme through home video footage of Callum at a young age, as well as one of the video locations being a 70s TV studio where we see an insight into Crighton's mind about how he wishes to blossom. The video also sees segments shot in Sefton Park's Palm House, which through the focus of plants and sunlight explicitly mirrors the theme of growth. The beautiful imagery, clever choice in locations and vision into the personal growth of Callum really does allow for the message of the song to hit home; self-growth is a beautiful thing that should be celebrated.

'Grow Babe' will only certify Crighton's place on the music scene and pop ladder even more. At only 20 years of age, he is definitely one to watch. Having already amassed a significant following on social media with fans from all over, he is already crafting his very own musical platform one cowbell, synth tone and pink boilersuit at a time.
