Hiiiiii,
Liverpool is filled to the brim with creatives. For a while now, I’ve became increasingly aware of the lack of women who are appreciated in this ‘creative scene’ of Merseyside. For years I have found that although I’d instantly know of my male friends’ achievements, I didn’t see women’s successes and talents mentioned as explicitly. Thanks to social media it is now a lot easier for women to get themselves out there and, to some extent, gain more opportunities to showcase what they can do yet there is still a lot more work to be done.
I wanted to do my bit to try and bring an end to this crap and carry out a mini project (I guess?) of creating a space where women, both those who are already doing bits publicly and those who create privately, can come together and exhibit their work.

The aim of this post was to simply be an introduction to who will be involved in initially, so you can get a brief insight into what their work is etc. From this point, every month (around the middle) I'll be posting work from two of the girls.
(This is just the initial one of these (hopefully) and if you fancy getting involved in the next wave then giz a DM or email me – rachelcarberry98@gmail.com)

So anyway, I’ll stop going on now and introduce ya to the lovelies…

MEG JAMES
I’m a part-time model and aspiring actor/all round creative person. I adore theatre and film, but I also enjoy any kind of performance. I’m an avid writer and I love performing my own poetry and spoken word.

Art is the best way of exploring yourself and the world around you, which is why I love it, in all of its forms. I particularly love anything that scrutinises typical societal ideas or challenges inequality. I also have an intense love for music and a (sometime) interest in fashion and style throughout the ages

HELEN HALE
I study Graphics and Illustration. On the side, I like to illustrate and create prints involving mostly robots and animals in high fashion clothing. I am also obsessed with films, mainly surreal, subtitled or just plain strange. I am fuelled by a Wilko's pick and mix and far too much chocolate and like every 21-year-old love a good cider and a boogie.

ELLE-JOHANNA WILLIAMS

I’m a 20 year old writer and poet from Liverpool. My main points of interest are equal rights for women and feminist issues, two subjects that I cover extensively in both my essays and poems. In 2018 I started a DIY publishing press called Utero, where I self published two anthologies of my work ‘five foot three’ and the most recent ‘worm.’ In 2019 I aim to extend the press further by publishing the works of other female writers and poets.  I am also 1/2 of Words for Birds, an upcoming podcast that will celebrate the overlooked female creatives of Merseyside by giving them a platform for their art.

OLIVIA HARDMAN

I am a second year student studying Illustration with Animation at Manchester School of Art. I enjoy going to charity shops to buy objects for my future dream house (hoarding junk) and accumulating earrings that I have no intention of wearing. I like to have hobbies but only so I can buy all of the equipment needed and then never do said hobby again.

Currently my obsession is anything made of clay and at the moment I’m reading Square Eyes by Anna Mill and Luke Jones

CAITLIN O'CONNOR
I’m a (homesick) 21-year-old English Literature and History student at the University of Edinburgh, and an aspiring good egg. I like Zadie Smith’s novels, upbeat 80s songs with miserable lyrics, and Irn Bru. I started writing for a music blog at 17, but since then I’ve become more interested in writing about political and personal identities – more specifically, working-class identities. Recently, however, I’ve pushed my love for writing aside for endless lists of literary criticism and historiography. This seems like a lovely space to begin again.

AMY WOODS

I am a 20 year old Human Geography student. I have a broad range of creative interests, which over the years has included; acting, the role of 'Head of Music' at Newcastle Student Radio, mental health campaigning, screen-printing, photography and creating my own Scandinavian inspired eyewear brand, 'Skandi'.  More recently, however, I have focused on film-making. In 2017, I directed a short film at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle about young women’s experiences with sexual harassment, called ‘Uncomfortable Truths’ and in 2018, I  was sound designer on the short ‘Home'. In May, I was selected by Channel 4 as one of their ‘Rising Star’s’ and I am now working for the British Film Institute and Clapperboard UK as a youth support worker on their ‘BFI Film Academy’.

Although my creative interests are constantly changing, being a geography student means I am passionate about current world issues, whether that be in a cultural, social or political sense, and so the one consistent in my work is how I relate whatever I am creating, to what I am learning in my degree. In 2019, alongside continuing to make short films, I hope to become more involved in art activism at local social enterprises.

NIAMH CRILLY

I'm 16 years old, from Liverpool, vegetarian and desperately waiting to finish A levels already, (studying English Language, English Literature and Philosophy and Ethics.) Stubborn and argumentative but I think/hope it's in a good way as I’m passionate about what I believe in #meatismurder. I'm not a massive fan of change, (even though I'm sat in my newly decorated room writing this), unless the change is within society for the better. Anyway, that's me in a nutshell; I hope that I sound somewhat interesting. Also, I would like to attempt my own blog in 2019 but I'm currently a bit apprehensive. See you soon, on this exciting page or maybe my own at some point :))
--------
Hope ya enjoyed this post and are looking forward to what will be going on in the next few months! It was my New Year resolution to do more things that I enjoy (aka stress less about uni) and I thought this would be a lovely way to start the year, I’ll still be writing my own bits too and a lot more regularly.

Thank you for reading as always.
